The "visual indicator" refers to how the buttons react as the user is looking around the screen. For example, maybe you want the buttons to enlarge as the user visually scans, or maybe you want a red box to appear around the button they are looking at. This is separate from the "dwell indicator" that gives visual feedback regarding how long the user needs to look at the button to make a selection. More on that can be found here: How do I change the dwell time and other eye gaze selection settings within Mind Express?
This article specifically focuses on the "visual indictor" settings that are available within Mind Express.
First, locate the "Indicator options" menu:
-
Select Menu in the upper left-hand corner, then Settings.
In the Mind Express 5 Settings, select "Access."
-
Select "Eye tracking" from the left-hand access options.
Scroll down to find "Indicator options."
Customize the indictor settings.
When available, click the
next to the setting for an explanation of that setting.
-
The following settings are customizable in this section:
Show: Use the drop-down to choose whether you want the indicator to show consistently "when pointing", or to only show up "when selecting" a button.
Hide the mouse pointer: Toggle this "on" for the mouse pointer to be hidden.
Visual indicator: Choose the shape and color of the visual indicator that appears as the eyes gaze across the screen.
Enlarge cell: Use the slider to choose a magnification. The cells will enlarge as the user gazes across the screen.
Sound when selecting: Toggle whether a sound plays when making a selection.
External mouse/touch pauses tracking for 1.5 seconds: Toggle "on" to pause eye tracking for 1.5 seconds any time the screen is touched or an external mouse is used. This can be useful for when clinicians are navigating the device while the user is using it.
Select the green "OK" button in the lower right corner of the menu to finalize your changes.
