The "button style" of a pageset refers to how the button looks visually (i.e. the button's shape, background color, border (width and color), font style, and label position). In many cases, buttons in the same category may all have the same style (i.e. all verbs have a green background). That said, you may want to customize existing styles or create your own to improve visual access, to highlight a specific button/set of buttons, and/or to fit the AAC user's personal preferences.
In the image below, you will see that pronouns are light yellow and verbs are light green. Folders that contain more pronouns and verbs are shaped like a folder and are slightly darker versions of yellow and green. Buttons with specific functions each have their own styles. These types of visual cues can be useful when teaching/learning language.
You may want to change the style of an existing button (i.e. to visually highlight a focus word/phrase), or you may want to change the style for a set of buttons (i.e. you would like the verbs to be purple instead of green). Both sets of instructions are included below.
Changing the Style of a Button
Use these instructions to change the style of a single button or a handful of buttons (i.e. to visually highlight focus word(s) or phrase(s)).
- Navigate to the pageset you would like to edit.
-
Once you are on the pageset you would like to edit, select "Menu" in the upper left corner of the screen and then select "Edit" from the dropdown menu.
-
You are now in "Edit Mode," and the "Edit Menu" should be visible on the right side of the screen.
-
Select the button you would like to change the style for (in this example we selected "drink"), and then select
in the Edit Menu.
Please note: You can change the style of multiple buttons on the selected page by using the "Multiple cells" function (see also How do I edit multiple buttons at a time?).
-
In the menu that appears, you can choose any one of the existing styles that are listed. Alternatively, you can use the yellow "New" button in the lower left corner to create a new style. In this example we selected "Style 8" from the existing style list.
- If you select the yellow "New" button in the lower left corner, you will be able to create a new style and choose the button shape, color, border, font, and placement of the label associated with that button style.
-
Select "OK" in the lower right corner once you have made your selection.
-
The style you chose will now be reflected on the selected button.
Editing an Existing Button Style
Use these instructions to change the style of a group of buttons that have the same style (i.e. instead of having a green background, you'd like the verbs to have a purple background).
-
Select the button that has the style you would like to edit for that group of buttons (in this example we selected "drink"), and then select
in the Edit Menu.
-
The style associated with the button that you selected will have a green checkmark in the upper right corner of that style. In this case, the style associated with the selected button is "Verbs 2." This is the style you will be editing.
Please note: Any changes you make to this style will change any button that has this style programmed.
-
Select "Edit style" at the top of the menu.
-
As you make changes to the button style (in this case we changed the color from green to purple), you will see the changes reflected in the style preview on the left.
-
When you are satisfied with your changes, select "OK" in the lower right corner of the menu.
-
All of the buttons that are programmed with the style you edited will now reflect the changes you made to the style.
Once you have completed your changes...
-
Select the green check button in the lower right corner of the "Edit Menu."
-
Press the floppy disk save button in the upper left corner of the screen to save your changes.
