You may have made a new page (i.e. containing specific things that are important to the AAC user) that you would like to be accessible to the user via a specific button within their vocabulary file.
This article will explain how to program a button to open up a different page in the vocabulary file.
Note: For more information on creating a new page using a template, see this article: How do I copy an existing page to use as a template?
-
Navigate to the page in the vocabulary file where you would like to add a button that links to a different page. In this example, we want to link a custom "My Pets" page to a button on the "Pets" page of CoreWord 20.
-
Select "Menu" in the upper left corner of the screen and select "Edit" from the dropdown menu.
-
You are now in "Edit Mode" and your screen should look like this:
-
Select a button that you would like to link to a new page when pressed. You may customize the image and label of the button if it is not already programmed (as we did in this case with the "My Pets" button in the image below). For more information about how to program a button, please see: How do I change a button's image, label, and speech message?
Note: Ensure that your button is "Visible" and "Selectable." These are under the "Properties" section in the "Edit Menu."
-
Select "Add action" in the "Edit Menu."
-
In the menu that appears, select "Go to..."
-
On the subsequent menu, select "Go to page."
- Select "OK" in the lower right corner.
-
From the list of pages that populates, select the page that you would like to link to the button. You can search for the page in the search bar, or you can sort the pages in alphabetical order. In this example, we searched for the "My Pets" page by typing the name into the search bar.
-
Click on the page you would like to link (it will be highlighted in green when selected), and then press "OK."
-
Check the "Actions" section in the "Edit Menu" to verify that the action was programmed correctly.
-
Press the green checkmark button in the lower right corner of the "Edit Menu."
-
Press the floppy disk save button in the upper left corner of the screen to save your changes.
-
Test your button! Navigate to the page where you programmed the button link and ensure that it opens the correct page.
