To maintain compliance, all insurance-funded communication systems are shipped as "dedicated" devices. This means that the user will be locked out of certain features and programs on the device. Dedicated devices can be used effectively as face-to-face communication tools, but your ability to connect other devices (i.e. phones) and to download additional software will be limited.
Below are several examples of things you will gain access to if you opt to unlock your ProSlate device.
Note: On unlocked ProSlate devices, you can manage which applications or websites are allowed or disabled under iOS settings: Content Privacy & Restrictions. For example, it may make sense to allow access to Safari but not provide access to the App Store. Our Technical Support Team can assist you with this process.
- Download Additional Applications: Ability to access the App Store for purchase of different play-based, social communication, work related, and education-based applications.
-
Use a Different Apple ID: Ability to sign-out of the assigned ProSlate user AppleID and into your personal Apple ID.
Note: Your purchased communication application is managed under the ProSlate username/Apple ID. You will need to check for updates for the communication app under the ProSlate Apple ID. If you misplace your ProSlate Apple ID/Password, our Technical Support Team can assist you.- Allows you to "mirror" your personal Apple phone or Apple iPad.
- Allows you to make FaceTime calls for social communication (Not all AAC applications have this integration).
-
Allows you to make Apple to Apple phone calls/messaging.
- Non-Apple communication partners can download an additional application such as "What's App" for WiFi calling and messaging
-
Use Environmental Controls: Download and connect to your different smart home applications for greater independence within the home environment.
- Examples include: Smart home appliance apps, smart TV apps, smart plugs, etc.
-
Engage in Non-Face-to-Face Communication Opportunities: This includes the ability to access:
- Social media applications (i.e. Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Work/school related applications
- Applications for additional communication opportunities via preferred access method (i.e., eye gaze interaction, head tracking).
- Email: Ability to access personal, work, or school email.
- Phone Connectivity: Ability to send/receive iMessages (iPhone to iPhone) without a phone carrier plan. Ability to Facetime.
- Browse the Web: Access websites for personal, work, education related tasks.
