To maintain compliance, all insurance-funded communication systems are shipped as "dedicated" devices. This means that the user will be locked out of certain features and programs on the device. Dedicated devices can be used effectively as face-to-face communication tools, but your ability to connect other devices (i.e. phones) and to download additional software will be limited.
Below are several examples of things you will gain access to if you opt to unlock your WinSlate device.
-
Install Additional Software:
- Ability to install Windows-based software (i.e., Microsoft Suite [Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.], Ability Drive by Tolt Technologies, etc.)
- Ability to access the Play Store and Internet to purchase or install different play-based, social communication, work related, and education-based applications.
- Use Environmental Controls: Ability to download additional software that might be needed to integrate your WinSlate series device with Infrared (IR) controlled devices in your environment.
-
Engage in Non-Face-to-Face Communication Opportunities: This includes the ability to access:
- Social media applications (i.e. Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Work/school related applications
- Software for additional communication opportunities via preferred access method (i.e., eye gaze interaction, head tracking).
- Email: Ability to access personal, work, or school email.
-
Phone Connectivity: Ability to pair your smartphone (if compatible) to make/receive phone calls and text messages. This includes:
- Phone use in Mind Express
- Phone mirroring (The ability to "mirror" your Android or iPhone onto the WinSlate device using additional software and hardware)
- Browsing the Web: Ability to access websites for personal, work, education-related tasks.
-
Voices: Ability to install/download additional voices (i.e. from Jabbla) and/or integrate your Voice Banking and AI Voice Clone.
Note: For some Voice Banking, the device does not need to be unlocked to integrate.
