How do I get started with Predictable on my ProSlate?

Predictable is a robust text-based system with a wide range of features and customization options.  The how-to articles pictured in this article were created by Therapy Box, which is the company who owns the Predictable software.

Please Note:  If you have one of our ProSlate loan devices, Predictable will be one of the loaded software systems.  If you have a funded ProSlate, the loaded software will be the one that your speech-language pathologist recommended following an evaluation. This software may or may not be Predictable.

Creating an Account

  1. When you open Predictable for the first time, you will be prompted to create an account.  You will need to fill out:

    1. Name
    2. Email Address
    3. Password
    4. Confirm Password
    5. Account Type (Cloud or Offline)
      1. Cloud:  Data is uploaded to the cloud to ensure that data is synced across devices.  If you log out, settings will be saved when you log back in.  This helps to avoid data loss.
      2. Offline:  Data is saved to the device only.  After logging out, the data will be cleared.  Each time you log into your account on a different device, the default settings and grid will be displayed based on the most recent changes made on that specific device.

  2. Once you have created an account, it will need to be verified by clicking on a link delivered to your designated email account.

Keyboard Screen

This is the main screen you will see when you log into Predictable.

  1. History Strip - Stores recently used words/phrases
  2. Favorites Strip - Displays phrases from your "Favorites" category
  3. Message Window - When you type a message with the keyboard, it will populate here.
  4. Word Prediction Strip - Will display word prediction based on what you have typed.  
    1. To choose the word prediction dictionary Predictable is using:
      1. Select the "Settings" button from the keyboard page
      2. Select "Word Prediction" from the left side of the menu
      3. Select your preferred dictionary (British or American)
    2. To change how the Word Prediction Strip looks:
      1. Select the "Settings" button from the keyboard page
      2. Select "Symbols" from the left side of the menu
        1. Choose if you would like symbols, symbols + text, or just text built into the word prediction
        2. Choose if you would like the strip to be regular or large 
          1. Note:  If you choose "Large," you will lose access to the History Strip and the Favorites Strip
  5. Keyboard - This is the default keyboard, but it can be changed based on user preference.  
    1. You can change your keyboard by:
      1. Select the "Settings" button from the keyboard page
      2. Select "Keyboard" from the left side of the menu
      3. Select your preferred keyboard
  6. Feature Keys - The yellow buttons allow you quick access to key features.  These can be edited based on AAC User preference.
    1. To edit Feature Keys:
      1. Select the "Settings" button from the keyboard page
      2. Select "Shortcuts" from the left side of the menu
      3. Select "Edit feature keys"
      4. Select the Feature Key you would like to edit.  You can adjust the Feature Key:
        1. Function
        2. Background color
        3. Icon color

Grid Screen

When you select the "Grid" button on the keyboard page, it will lead you to this screen.

Phrases are organized into a variety of pre-programmed categories.  Use the "Edit" tool (small pencil) to edit/add/delete categories and phrases.

To adjust how the Grid Screen looks:

  1. Select the "Settings" button from the keyboard page
  2. Select "Grid Layout" from the left side of the menu
  3. From this menu, you can choose:
    1. Number of rows/columns
    2. Font size/color of the categories and phrase buttons
    3. Whether the grid buttons show images, text, or both

Select a Voice 

Within Predictable, you can choose from a variety of voice options, including standard voices, and voices unique to you (i.e. via voice banking or cloning).  To select a voice...

  1. Select the "Settings" button from the keyboard page
  2. Select "Speech" from the left side of the menu
  3. Select a voice from the available options
    1. Note:  For standard voices, you may need to download a voice by going to iOS Settings > Accessibility > Spoken content > Voices > Download available voice(s)

Call and Facetime Function

Call and FaceTime functionality within Predictable is provided in the video below.

Note:  The ProSlate must be unlocked prior to using this feature.
