Eye gaze calibration on the ProSlate 13 with Enable Eyes is completed using the Hiru application (rather than the iOS Accessibility Settings).
Completing the "calibration" process helps the eye gaze camera to learn about the AAC user's unique eye features and movements. A strong calibration score helps to ensure efficient and effective eye gaze access for the user.
This article walks through how to access and complete the calibration process on the ProSlate 13 with Enable Eyes device.
- Open the Hiru app
-
Select "Settings."
- On the settings page, select "Calibration Settings."
- The "Calibration Settings" page allows you to customize the speed of calibration, size of the calibration point, and the colors of the calibration window.
-
Once you're satisfied with these settings, hit the back arrow
in the upper left corner twice to return to the home screen. twice to go back to the home screen, then select the calibration target.
-
On the calibration page, you will see a positioning window labeled "Step 1."
-
Ensure sure the user's eyes (indicated by green dots) are centered in the window.
-
The dark line on the distance indicator symbolizes the user's distance from the camera. The two white lines provide a guide for appropriate distance (ideally the dark line would be between the two white lines). The ProSlate 13 with Enable Eyes™ should be approximately 20-24 inches from the user.
-
-
Choose the number of calibration points by selecting the buttons featured under "Step 2."
- More calibration points give you a more accurate calibration, but it is more demanding on the user. New users may benefit from using fewer points (i.e. 1 point), and more advanced users would benefit from 5 or 9 points. Once you select one of the calibration point options, the calibration will begin automatically.
- Select the "Step by Step" calibration button for emergent users who may not yet be able to focus throughout the entire calibration process. In this case, a caregiver or clinician may point to the device to prompt the user to look toward a calibration point. Once the user is looking, the caregiver or clinician can tap the screen for that point to be captured manually. This is repeated with remaining points. This is most useful with single point and 5-point calibration.
-
Calibration results will appear on the screen automatically after the calibration is completed.
- "Green dots" indicate a successful calibration. Click "OK" to accept.
-
"Red and yellow dots" indicate the calibration can be improved. Click "improve" to repeat for points that were inaccurate.
- "Green dots" indicate a successful calibration. Click "OK" to accept.
-
Close out of the app by pressing the back arrow, and then the exit button in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
